| Classes
Classes at the university are taught
in English. Our fully air-conditioned classrooms
are supplied with a variety of audio-visual equipment
including televisions, LCD projector, VCR/DVD
player and computer. Students complete laboratory
requirements in smaller groups in a separate facility.
The campus also includes a computerized testing
center, where students gain experience completing
electronic USMLE-style exams throughout their
Basic Sciences training.
Recreation
Although students spend six to eight
hours per day in class, they find time for leisure
activities as well. There are many natural wonders
waiting to be explored on the island of Sint Eustatius,
from tropical forest to volcanic crater to coral
reefs. Students can hike foot trails, swim, snorkel,
and scuba dive. Athletes pursue sports such as
soccer, tennis and softball. The island also has
several restaurants and bars for socializing.
Student
Government Association
The academic and social well being of the students
are vitalized through the actions of the Student
Government Association (SGA), a democratically
elected body that, in cooperation with the administration
of the University, promotes development of both
the University and local communities through cooperatively
managed services. For example, the SGA manages
peer-driven tutoring and counseling services.
The SGA also sponsors special events (e.g., basketball
tournament) that unite the student community.
Student
Organizations/Clubs
The SGA also sponsors a growing set of set of
open-membership clubs that accommodate a wide
variety of interests and needs including the Muslim
Student Association, Christian Club, Sankofa Culture
Club, S4 Club (USMLE preparation), Tennis Club,
and Dance Club. Below is a partial list of available
clubs and their contact information.
Internet
The University of Sint Eustatius provides students
with high-speed wireless Internet access (included
in tuition) in most University facilities. A student
may also wish to establish an Internet connection
in their personal residence through the local
phone company at their own expense (installation
= $140; monthly subscription fee = $76). All students
will receive a eustatiusmed.edu e-mail account
for receiving and sending University related correspondences.
Students are expected to check their school e-mail
accounts regularly.
Computers
and Laptops
Although there are ample computers throughout
the campus, it is highly recommended that students
bring a laptop if available. It should be equipped
with a 10/100-baseT card to plug directly into
the University's high-speed satellite connection.

Employment
Opportunities on Statia
Students who matriculate at the University of
Sint Eustatius are not allowed to be employed
on Sint Eustatius. This restriction is part of
the Student Declaration requirements that has
been established by the Netherlands Antilles Immigration
Department in order for students to obtain temporary
residency on Sint Eustatius (see downloadable
"Student Declaration Document" on this
website). Students' spouses (or other relatives)
who obtain temporary residency status on Sint
Eustatius could legally secure employment on Sint
Eustatius. However, there are virtually no job
openings on Sint Eustatius. Furthermore, when
an employment opportunity does arise, Antillean
labor law mandates that first priority be given
to a Statian or other Antillean citizen. Thus,
spouses of students who come to Statia, in almost
all cases, will NOT be able to be employed on
island.
